Jessica was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and came to the United States in 1981. Her parents came to the United States with hopes to provide a better life for their family. As an immigrant family they encountered many hardships as they struggled to adjust to a new country, new culture, and a new language. Despite the challenges, God blessed her by giving her amazing and godly mentors through many seasons in her life. She came to Wilcrest Baptist Church in 1989 and has had the privilege of serving in various ministries and traveling to several nations to spread the Gospel. Jessica graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science and taught in the Alief Independent School District for 17 years. In 1997, Jessica married her best friend, Darren and they are now the proud parents of their beautiful daughter, Hannah. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and singing. God called her to join the Wilcrest Staff in 2014 as Minister to Preschool and Children. Jessica’s life passion is to know Christ and to follow Him with reckless abandonment. She has a strong burden for the family and knows that our world, nation, and city are in desperate need for Christ and it begins with the family. Jessica understands that she has a great responsibility to equip every generation with the Gospel message and to make sure that they live out the “Great Commission.” One child, one family, one community at a time.

Shelly Cervantes was born and raised in Beaumont, TX. Like the story of so many others, she spent several years seeking her purpose in life. As she became exhausted searching for something to fill an obvious hole in her soul, Christ pursued her. Having accepted Christ in 2001 under guidence of an accounting professor her last year in college, she spent many years without much direct discipleship. A hunger to know her Creator in a deeper sense became insatiable. She began attending Wilcrest Baptist Church in October of 2007 and marvels at how graciously Christ has grown her since. Shelly loves spending time with her wonderful husband, Yadu, homeschooling her children, reading, journaling and traveling to Central and South America. She has served joyfully as a volunteer ESL teacher and on mission trips to Barranquilla, Colombia.
